The Use of Technology Although I do not think my relationship with technology is unhealthy, I would not say it is healthy either. I enjoy using my phone and watching TV, but I try to limit myself. I know that using technology is just unhealthy, and you have to limit ho w much you stare at a screen. I truly think that technology is taking up a big part of my life, but it is hard to move away from technology when the world is moving towards technology. Looking back at my semester I have not handed in a single assignment printed out. Everything I have done has been on my computer.  I don’t necessarily think that the internet is making me smarter. There is so much fake news on the internet, and there are so many people that post their opinions and they make it seem like it is facts. There are many people who take everything they read on the internet seriously and I think that is ridiculous. I will not believe something I see unless I see it from multiple sources. I enjoy listening to peo

EOTO 2 Alternative Media

Image
EOTO #2 My second EOTO presentation was about Alternative Media. With plenty of mainstream media sources dominating the world news, there are plenty of alternative media that have really been growing different cultures. Alternative media is considered anything that is not a mainstream media source. For example, CNN, NBC, and FOX would all be considered mainstream media. They have big followings, and use their television stations to produce shows and turn a profit. On the contrary, alternative media sources are not well known. Alternative media sources are usually designed to go after one group of people who share the same beliefs, and views. The Anti-War website that I wrote about in a past blog would be considered an alternative media. It focuses on not starting war, and it's definitely not intended to reach readers who are not interested in antiwar.  The one big thing that you have to keep in mind about Alternative media is that the stuff you are reading about may be bias. It is

Electronic Tattoos  In this TED Talk, Juan Enriquez explains the meaning of electronic tattoos, and how we leave them behind. He also explains the importance of of them. Looking at my use of technology, it is scary to think about what I have put on the internet, and how it can show up when someone looks me up. All of my friends and family use social media, and the internet, which is scary because it means that they have electronic tattoos as well. I really believe the government should be making laws about this. I feel as if using facial recognition is not safe to protect our own identities. However, I think that the government uses this information. They won't make laws against this because they secretly use this facial recognition to get to know more about us. They are slowly doing the same thing that China is doing, becoming a surveillance state, but opposite to China, they are keeping this a secret instead of letting the public know about it. The only thing that I can think of

Diffusion of Innovation : Television

Image
Diffusion of Innovation  The television has been a big invention, and changed the landscape of communicating news around the world. The TV as I mentioned in another post was invented in 1927 and since then it has taken off. The idea of the TV was well looked at by many different people, and although rather expensive many people still bought it. Although it was not what we are used to today, the small screen and lack of color amazed the people in this time. There was a massive uptake on this product, when newer, faster, and more efficient televisions came out. In the fifties, a television with a wireless remote was released. Making the TV more efficient, and letting people who change the Channel and volume from their couch. The TV has grown from bigger screens to the additions of guides, and other applications, but as the TV grew, a group of people who disliked it grew. Many people at first did not think the television would take off because it would take away from people going outside.

Eoto: Social Media

Social Media In class one student talked about social media, and the effect is has happened on communication. With the creation of social media websites like Twitter, and Instagram have exploded to give people news, and information with what is going on in the world, and has also let people stay in the in contact with family and friends. This has been one of the most important ideas that have come to fruition, changing the lay of the land for communication for people all across the world. While being one of the more important inventions, it is also one of the most destructive. Today young kids are using social media, and being exposed to a wide variety of content. At age 12 kids are on social media creating Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. They control who they follow, and expose themselves to content that is not appropriate to kids that age. I see this in my younger cousins who are around the age of 13. They have said many things that I will not repeat. I asked where they

AntiWar

Image
Antiwar   War is a huge part of American history. The United States is a country due to the revolutionary war. We have freed slaves using war, and we have stopped a nation dominating all of Europe due to war. Without war, the United States would not be where it is today. Our economy could look very different, because World War II pulled us out of the Great Depression. It is hard to be antiwar, as a society that has developed because of war. In the media, antiwar is never brought up by channels like CNN, or FOX. Which is weird because if we want to take a step towards world peace waging war on each other would be a good start. However, the idea of being pro war doesn't mean you are into violence, and you want to see our soldiers be sent off into battle, but that there are benefits to war. Whether it is for economical reasons, or for reasons that involve keeping countries in check. These websites like Antiwar are rather hard to find, because it is a very one sided view on war. It i

Televison

Television    The television is one of the biggest inventions within the last 100 years. The way we communicate with others has changed drastically because of the invention of the TV. Philo Farnsworth , the inventor of the television, lived in a house without power for the first 14 years of his life. When he was in high school he got the idea for the television. At 16 years old, he created his first layout of the TV and from there on his idea took off. While being in high school he took classes at BYU, and was deemed a “special student”. However the death of his father did create a setback, as he had to stop taking classes at BYU. During this time Philo had to get a job and provide for his family.  Two years later Philo convinced investors to give him a partnership and moved out to Los Angeles with his wife in 1926, and continued his work on the TV. In 1927, he finished his work, and created the first television on September 7, and got a patent the same year. When thinking of the idea
